If you are like me you are counting down the days when you can take a break and relax. It seems each year I am getting busier and busier (or maybe it is just because I am getting older and older) and I need this time over Christmas to relax and recharge my batteries.
But we humans are not solar powered, so when recharging your batteries, make sure you are doing it while still using sun protection.
I know, you spend all year using sun protection and it would just be nice to have a bit of time when you could not worry about it. The problem is that over summer the UV is at its highest, so this is the worst time possible to take a break from using sun protection. The damage done during this break could be the damage that leads to skin cancer.
But look, it doesn’t have to be a big deal. Just remember to wear a hat that protects your head, ears and neck, some eye protection, and a long sleeved shirt. Sunscreen is great for those areas that aren’t covered by clothing. And by picking some lightweight 100% cotton products, it is actually not going to make you too hot.
Just don’t let sunburn or skin cancer be a reminder of your break. You will be kicking yourself if you do. And maybe going through some fairly painful and time consuming treatments.
