It is easy to take the attitude that it is too late to start using sun protection after years of working outdoors without it, but the truth is, it is better late than never with sun protection.

UV radiation damage to your skin accumulates over time, building up until the point when it causes a mutation in the DNA cell that your body just can’t repair. This might happen quickly in some people, and others it could take a long time.  Who knows what type each of us is, unless we actually want to try that deadly exercise to find out, and that really doesn’t sound very intelligent.

The way I see it, if you haven’t developed skin cancer so far, then there is no time like the present to start using sun protection, regardless of your age or number of years working without it.

And if you have already developed a skin cancer and had it treated, and you still are not using sun protection, I guess I have to wonder if you have a death wish, because you are seriously playing with fire. Any good doctor will let you know that having had one skin cancer increases your risk for future skin cancers, so it is extra important your protect yourself.

So regardless of what has happened in the past, keep looking forward and start using sun protection today. It is never too late to start looking after yourself, and you might be grateful in the future for making this small amount of effort.
